Need a RIDE? Volunteer Driver program for seniors on the move.

Yes! Answer many older adults. More than 20 percent of Americans age 65 and older don’t drive, according to an analysis of the federal government’s National Household Travel Survey by AARP’s Public Policy Institute.

Here in Petaluma we are working to solve that problem with Petaluma People Services Center iRIDE Petaluma. Remaining self-reliant in your own home is important to the health of aging seniors.  There does however come a point where we can no longer drive and may become homebound.  As some point many of us will need help.  For some that help will come from family and friends.  For others, help will come from and extended community of friends.

This is where you come in. Your interest in volunteering to take members of the community to and from much needed medical and social appointments are vital in keeping our senior neighbors healthy and involved in our community.  We can work around your schedule, you will receive an email from our coordinator on Friday, looking for drivers the following week and you only need to commit to drive when you have time.
