The Adult programs at Petaluma People Services Center are run by SonomaWORKS.

SonomaWORKS is an employment assistance and training and job retention program developed to meet the needs of Sonoma County residents who receive TANF (Temporary Aid to Needy Families). Recipients of TANF are expected to become gainfully employed. Through funding provided by the Sonoma County Human Services Department, SonomaWORKS employment workshops and job search assistance program offers a variety of services tailored to meet the specific needs of each individual. All of the services developed are geared to helping participants prepare themselves to compete for, obtain, and retain good-paying jobs and to become independent of public assistance.Participants must be referred directly by the County of Sonoma. Petaluma People Services Center offers the SonomaWORKS employment services program as a partner in The Employment Group, a consortium including PPSC, Goodwill Industries of the Redwood Empire, The CENTER and West County Community Services.

This innovative program provides:

  • Job Search Skills workshops and individual assistance
  • Work experience in public and non-profit sectors
  • Support with image-building and self-esteem Interviewing skills and practice
  • Resume writing and application completion skills
  • Cold calling and networking skills
  • Problem solving skills
  • Team building skills
  • Private voice mail access
  • Life skills workshops

Volunteers needed to help with Work Place Skills Development:

PPSC is looking for professionals to help lead 30 minute workshops with our clients participating in our SonomaWORKS Program.  The SonomaWORKS Program is designed to help residents find a job to support themselves and their family. The program helps our clients become advocates for their own self-sufficiency. Volunteers will lead mini-workshops monthly on various topics:  Workplace Attitude, Workplace Prep, Professional Communication, Professional Responsibility, Problem Solving, Nutrition and Wellness.  If you have 30-45 minutes that you can donate to help, please contact PPSC, our staff is happy to help you put together your workshop.  Contact PPSC admin@petalumapeople.org SonomaWorks Website
