Laughing for L.I.F.E

a comedy benefit for Farmers’ Market L.I.F.E, join us for a laugh and good cause.

May 30 LIFE Comedy Show

Farmers’ Market L.I.F.E. (Local Incentive for Food and Economy) makes locally grown, fresh food more affordable to CalFresh (food stamp) customers because it “matches” their Calfresh benefits, dollar for dollar, up to a $10 or $20 maximum, depending on the market.

New in August 2014, Farmers’ Market L.I.F.E. started as pilot with initial funding from Sonoma County Health Dept. and Human Services Dept. Petaluma Bounty partnered with Petaluma Eastside and Westside Farmers’ Markets, along with Foodies Project, Petaluma Healthcare District, Kaiser Permanente and other funders to provide up to $10 incentives for CalFresh users at Petaluma Farmers’ Markets. This initiative improves access to locally grown produce at farmers’ markets by providing an incentive to CalFresh users. It increases CalFresh users’ purchasing power, the economic viability of local farms, and keeps money in our local economy.

In 2015, Petaluma Bounty will expand participating farmers’ markets to include 3 in Marin County, all Petaluma markets, Cotati, Rohnert Park, Santa Rosa Vets Building, Sebastopol, and Healdsburg markets. The L.I.F.E. collaborative is working with the California Market Match Consortium, Kaiser Permanente, St. Joseph Health, Petaluma Healthcare District, Slow Food Russian River, and other funders. If Farmers’ Market L.I.F.E. is fully funded and utilized, this initiative will bring $76,000 to local farmers’ markets in 2015 ($38,000 in CalFresh benefits and $38,000 in incentives).
